Tevez admits he could be ready to quit United: I’m fed up with sitting on the bench

Carlos Tevez is prepared to quit Manchester United after failing to nail down a
regular first-team place.

United must decide at the end of the season if they want to turn Tevez’s two-year loan deal into a £32million transfer.

The likelihood of the Argentine staying has decreased dramatically due to his recent modest contributions and an economic climate that does not make the deal look value for money.

Tevez last night made the first move by telling an Argentine radio station he is ready to quit.

Considering his options: Tevez could move on

He said: ‘I need continuity in selection to be at my best and if that doesn’t happen then I believe this will be my last year.

‘I have offers — not only from Spain — and I need to look at the options. It’s not just about money.

‘Because of the respect I have for the United fans and because of the club’s history, I have never really wanted to leave.

‘But now I think it would be the best solution.’

Tevez is a huge favourite with fans but he has been on the fringes in many big games.

Red handed: United back on top but Fergie has the hump

Sir Alex Ferguson launched a stinging attack on his Manchester United players for their casual approach against Portsmouth at Old Trafford last night.

Wayne Rooney scored early on but the second goal from Michael Carrick which secured the 2-0 win came with only eight minutes to play.

The victory took United back to the top of the Barclays Premier League above Liverpool but the manager was furious that victory was not achieved more emphatically and led him to question his players’ commitment.

Liverpool have confirmed Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Saturday’s make-or-break Premier League clash with Hull at the KC Stadium.

Gerrard is still struggling with the groin injury which has ruled him out since the first leg of the Champions League defeat to Chelsea earlier this month.

The midfielder was an unused substitute in the 4-0 win over Blackburn and failed to figure in the two 4-4 draws with Chelsea and Arsenal.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has admitted the trip to Hull has come too early for Gerrard, but is confident the England international will be back for the home clash with Newcastle on May 3.

“He is not fit and won’t be available. I think he will be available next week because he’s improving, but this game is too soon,” Benitez told the club’s official website.

“The rest of the team is available – we have a full squad.”
